Sorry, the answer is NO. The answer is yes for Windows 7.

I have MS Win XP- Home V 2002 w/Srv Pck 3 Pent 4 CPU 1.6ghZ, 1 GB of RAM

Thus, space is precious. Can I delete AOL and other crap taking up space?

PS I have a newer HP and the power pack has gone out 2x (1x replaced by HP, 2x no deal. But I do have a new mother board just don't know how to switch out with the old computer.) HELP!!! :-(

Your choice. If you do not use AOL and other crap, you could delete it. And if the main purpose of deleting IE was to get space, then even if you could delete IE, you cannot have more than 50 MB of space freed.

Also try using CCleaner- http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

You may need IE 7 for doing updates for the Microsoft programs you have installed (MS updates don't work with IE6 any longer), so if you have IE8 installed, that version can be removed. You can't remove IE altogether, much of it is part of the operating system and you would break Windows by trying to remove it.

BTW, a new motherboard isn't gonna do you any good if you're running out of hard drive space. An external USB hard drive and moving your least used or "archive" data files to that drive would free up space; or a 2nd hard drive in that PC (if it is a desktop) might solve that issue, too.

@the-edmeister, there is no use of removing a newer version when you can only get an old version out of it.

And now to get max. HDD space from your old HDD.

Delete all files in the this folder (WARNING: Do not delete the folder itself. Just it's contents.)

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

This can free up much space if you installed some windows updates recently.

If you do not uninstall windows updates, then you can free even more space. Just follow the instructions on this website-

http://www.astahost.com/info.php/Remove-Windows-Update-Uninstall-Information_t19170.html

Copy the VB code on the website to Notepad and click save. While naming the file, be sure SURE the file name is "RemoveWindowsUninstall.vbs" (" symbol INCLUDED) when in the Save Dialog.

Now execute the VBscript and it will delete Windows update un-installation files.
