I can't download videos to realplayer; they always read "unable to download"

Whenever I try to download a video from youtube, the downloader always reads "unable to download." Does Firefox depend on internet explorer, because my internet explorer hasn't been working the past couple days. I hope that downloading videos doesn't depend on internet explorer. Please help, youtube is the only place I can download music!
