Why does Firefox not know that I have Acrobat Reader installed already?

Acrobat Reader DC has long been installed and routinely updated, per Control Panel>Programs and Features, on my Windows 10 64 bit Home edition PC. Why does Firefox always think I do not have it installed? Is it looking for an add-on, instead of an installed program? Are there Firefox or Windows settings that affect this one way or the other? This is a nuisance of the very minor variety, but I find myself curious why it persists and what causes it.
