How do advertisers know my location?

I use Firefox on my iMac and I have all the privacy setting that I know of set up for private browsing but advertisers know my location. Can I prevent that?

A website can do a reverse DNS lookup to get your location. The accuracy depends on how your IPS reports your location (known location of the gateway).
