How do I delete unwanted emails in my account?
I thought I could star the emails I do not want, and then I could click on the trash or a delete option. The delete option is not appearing. Why isn't the delete option readily available/accessible?

There is an setting in Account Settings/Synchronization & Storage to 'Always keep starred messages', which may explain the absence of a delete option.
It may be better to create an 'Unwanted' tag and use that instead.
Starring a message has nothing to do with selecting messages to delete. Select the message/messages you want to delete and press delete on your keyboard. You can also right click and select delete. There is a delete button on the header of the message Pane. Pressing F8 toggles the Message Pane on and off. You can right click the Mail Toolbar, select customize, find the Delete button and drag it to the toolbar.
