Firefox has been glitchy since the recent browser update

Since the browser's update around a week ago, Firefox has been crapping out in the following ways:

- After a few hours of use the pages begin to glitch (I'll scroll down and it may visually remain as what I was previously viewing, and patches of black may appear); this used to be a rare occurrence, but now it's happening every day, to the point where I have to reboot.

- Along with this, my graphics driver keeps stopping and recovering (with an error message appearing afterwards), which was also a rare occurrence; I've tried updating driver, but this is still happening.

- My browser has seriously slowed down, even freezing for a minute or so.

- My Session Manager add-on doesn't prompt to restart my previous session, even with the option checked; it did the first time or so after the update, but not anymore (now only the browser's built-in session recovery is working, which, while decent, isn't the one I want).

Are there fixes for this, or at least a way to go back to the previous version of Firefox before this glitchy update? :(

EDIT: Okay, the graphical stuff has more or less stopped with cor-el's first suggestion, but now it seems to have been replaced with my browser crashing at least once a day. This, and the add-on is still not working correctly. Would anyone suggest uninstalling it and installing this newer version: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I'm not a very tech-savvy person, so how do I access my firewalls?

I'm not sure how to remove the restrictions for Firefox. Could you tell me

This is both a bump and an update: my browser is now crashing AT LEAST once a day, and my Session Manager add-on is still not working. Could I possibly go back to version 28, at least until the current one gets sorted out?

Also, how DO I go back to a previous version?

Note that is isn't recommended to go back to a previous Firefox version as that will make you vulnerable to security issues that have been patched in later versions.

Can you post some recent crash IDs?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

You will have to reinstall extensions in the new profile and redo other customizations.

I'll post five IDs, just to be safe:

bp-4e6ba2b0-94c5-4891-b699-f597d2140514

And just in case that I do have to reinstall my extensions, is there a way for me to view a full list of them (I cannot recall how to)?
