Close, Minimize and Restore buttons are missing from Title Bar

Using FF8 on Win 7 64 bit. The Close, Minimize and Restore buttons on the Title Bar are invisible (meaning that I can't see them but if I click where they are supposed to be, they react properly -- so they exist but can't be seen). This is true in the Default theme and most other themes I've tried. The exception is a theme called FT Deep Dark -- with that theme, the buttons are visible, but I hate the theme so I don't want to be forced to use it. How can I get the buttons to appear as they should?
