Firefox no longer puts a new bookmark in the folder I choose. I must search for it, and drag it to the folder I originally selected. Why?

Using Firefox 3.6.17 WinXp SP3 Just this year began to have this problem. I also find that Firefox Bookmark manager/Search does not show where it found the bookmark it found. So dragging it from the Search Results just creates a new instance of it in the folder to which I drag it. Dumb!
