I can't get Thunderbird to download new mail.
Yesterday morning Thunderbird downloaded my emails just fine. Last night about 1830 EDT it was downloading 20 messages and stopped after 10 were downloaded. Since then when I try to get new email it gives the messages "Contacting host server", "Connected to host server", "Downloading 1 of 37 messages". After 90 seconds or so it displays the message "No new messages". What is going on? I've closed and reopened the program and even did a complete shutdown of the machine for five minutes then re-powered. Nothing works. I don't like using Outlook for sending, reading etc. All my info is on Thunderbird.
Thanks in advance.
ps Any chance that Thunderbird will be a mail server unto itself (chienetfou@thunderbird.com or .net)? That would be really great even from a non IT perspective.

usually an anti virus issue.
Disable email scanning and reboot your machine.
Eset used to do that but I haven't had an issue with EmsiSoft, to date. That was the first troubleshooting step I took. Then I checked settings on the host server and on Thunderbird. Everything has checked as ok.
I have not personally experienced the issue at all, but have been using eset for years. Norton is the most common puppy to have spasms like this.
However, try closing Thunderbird and emptying the spam folder on the server via your browser. Then see if it plays. (corrupt/malformed mail is the trigger in any regard and spam is the most likely to be malformed, often on purpose) Other than that look at deleting what looks to be the next logical download in the list.
Eset was giving me other issues as well. Chief among them was transforming into a resource hog. The mail won't download. The status bar at the bottom of Thunderbird say it is downloading then it quits and says "No new messages".
