popups no longer blocked and now internet slow

more options

I got the new Firefox and now have tons of problems. 1) Pop-ups are not being blocked. I constantly get them when on a website. If I close them out, they load cookies or other stuff on my computer, but I can't proceed if I don't close them out. My settings say pop-ups are being blocked but they aren't. 2) Every website I go to tracks me and stores cookies. Every day I have over 190 cookies on my computer I have to wipe off. My computer is super slow now, and I even changed my preferences so that the websites will not be able to store information on my computer, as in not remembering y history or cookies. But now the internet is even worse in speed than it was before. Why would changing this preference make the computer so low now? 3) It really pisses me off that websites can spy on me now and constantly send me span messages through Firefox once I leave their site. I turned off remembering my history but I think it's still doing it. Furthermore, not I can't save my passwords or user names for the sites that don't abuse it. So I either have to be constantly harassed and spied on, or I can't use a friendly function of remembering my user name, etc. This is very disappointing. I used to love Firefox... but that is all in the past now. What if I went to a Medical website to find personal information, and then it starts placing ads or "we miss you" messages to the side. What if I don't wish my father to know I was on the website? What if I was picking him out a present on a different site and left it in the cart to get later, and then when I came back it is showing what I had looked at online on the side of Firefox. What the hell? So now I can't even shop for birthday presents without them being ruined, because you all are letting shopping websites spy on me. You know what I mean? This is absolutely ridiculous that I can't even use the internet and retain my privacy.

Could you check your download history to see where you got your Firefox installer?

Please do some cleanup on your system:

(1) Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program

Click the "Installed on" column heading to group entries by date. This may reveal some undisclosed/unwanted bundled items on your computer. Remove everything unrecognized/unwanted/untrusted.

(2) Scan with some of the cleanup tools listed in our support article:

Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

(3) In Firefox, check your connection setting to make sure it hasn't been hijacked.

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default setting is "Use system proxy settings" but you can try "No proxy"

(4) In Firefox, disable or remove unrecognized and nonessential extensions. Open the add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

If Firefox provides a link to restart Firefox in order to make your changes effective, you can complete your work on this tab and then click the link as the last step.

(5) In Firefox, back on the Add-ons page, Extensions section, check for updates using the "gear" button > Check for Updates.

Any improvement?
