when the aol desktop is running thunderbird no longer sees new aol mail, why?
As soon as AOL is totally shut down on the system, the new e-Mails once again show up in Thunderbird. Apparently/obviously the AOL Desktop software is mucking around with the ports. Can anyone explain what is really happening?
Many thanks, in advance, for your thoughts!

You can access your account via Thunderbird or webmail. What do you need the AOL Desktop software for?

Hahahahaha ... not my system! User wants both! I realize the options. Thanks.
Some email providers permit only one login/connection at a time. I recall using lineone and tiscali (both of whom have since been absorbed into Talktalk) where being logged into the webmail portal would freeze out an email client. Annoyingly, too, even after you closed the webmail connection, it would take several minutes for the account to be released for new connections.
AOL may have a similar policy/working practice. I doubt that they have any great enthusiasm for users connecting via email clients; these users won't see all the adverts. ;-)
