Yahoo search bar is NOT going away :(
hi i'm using Firefox version 15.0.1. On the top right hand side of the browser my search engine is always yahoo :( boo hoo
I've tried going through manage search engines and deleting it, yet it turns up every time i start a new session of firefox.
I went through the plugins on the firefox folder and there was no yahoo thing to delete.
and about:config apart from being scary to fiddle with, has so many items with the word yahoo in it.
i really love google and usual open firefox to search, but think i may have to switch to google chrome as this yahoo thingy is reeeeeeeally bugging me.
please help

Usually reinstalling doesn't change this kind of setting because it is based on "something" in your personal Firefox settings folder (AKA your Firefox profile folder). Instead, you could try the Reset feature.
A Reset duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. More information in this article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.
Does it make any difference?

It's possible that a non-Yahoo add-on is changing the search engine. Could you try disabling ALL nonessential extensions here:
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category
Then change your search engine and restart Firefox. Does the change stick?
Hi jscher2000,
ThankQ but it came back, even when i disabled the antivirus on the extension, and removed yahoo from search engines. Restarted firefox, and there it was on the search engine smiling gleefully yahoo :(.
do you think uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it might help? but will i loose my book marks if i do that? thanks again, guess i'm not techno savy as i thought :(

wooooooooo hoooooooooooo!!! :D THANK YOU so much!!!
I hope it doesn't come back. If it does, please check your extensions list right away to see if you can spot anything new/different. You can keep a list of extensions into a word processing document, and note the date, to keep a record. It's fairly easy to copy/paste from this page:
Help > Troubleshooting Information
The Extensions table is the second one.
