I want to get rid of downloads notification. I won't use Firefox if I can't get rid of the pesky "downloads notification window" popping up all the time. What a pain in the browser!

The "downloads notification window" keeps popping up. I have no use for it whatsoever. If I can't get rid of it, I will discontinue using Firefox as my browser.

Hi hkivhk,

Are you asking if you can turn off the downloads window? That is actually pretty easy. Just go to Tools > Options > General. If you have the Firefox menu, just hit Alt to temporarily enable the menu bar.

You can find more information in the KB article Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings.

Hopefully this helps!

Thank you ever so much, Matt_G! Your reply solved the problem of the pesky downloads window and a bunch of other issues. I guess I've spent too much time on IE and Chrome. I was conditioned to look for a wrench icon and couldn't find it in Firefox. I can now personalize to my heart's content. I understand from another blogger that videos and clips is easier with the video download tool on Firefox. This is the main reason I'm giving Firefox another trial run. I tried Firefox about a year ago and caught a real nasty virus from it that fried my hard drive. Fortunately my laptop was under warranty, but it had to be sent in and I lost about three weeks use. I was a little leery of trying Firefox again, after all that. I hope I do better with it this time around. Again, thanks for the help.

You can also set the Boolean pref browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete to false on the about:config page.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm going to look at this to see if I can make it work. I can't believe I couldn't figure this out, based on the first answer I received. It was right in front of me, but my preconceptions from other browsers kept me from seeing it!
