Since today, files that I'm trying to download say "failed" no matter what, and doesn't even try to install. I tried resetting things to their default settings, restarting the computer, and even went as far as resetting Firefox, but nothing works.

Yeah, but it never keeps track of Firefox.

Still nothing? Why am I stuck with Chrome just to download anything?

I'm having the same problem. It's related to the parental controls that some users have on their computer, even if they didn't enable that feature. See Unable to download files in Windows 10 when Parental Controls are on.

There should be a permanent fix released soon in Firefox 69.0.3 that should work. The other option would be to install version 69.0.1 until a fix is available.

To follow up, if you update now you should get version 69.0.3, which will fix your problem.

Hope this helps.
