A theme is a type of Firefox add-on that changes the visual appearance of Firefox. This article describes how to find, install and manage themes in Firefox.

What are themes?

A theme changes the appearance of Firefox, such as the color scheme and background image of the toolbars. The color scheme of menus and built-in pages will follow, based on whether the text color on your toolbar is light or dark. Some websites also will follow the same color scheme.

Firefox comes with a set of themes to choose between that support both light and dark modes. You can also install themes created by our community members through add-ons.

Appearance settings

You can select from Light, Dark or System appearance for your browser. If you’re using a Firefox Theme, this will toggle the light versus dark version of that theme. It will also change the color scheme of menus and built-in pages.

The System setting will match what your Operating System is set to (light or dark), so if it automatically switches to dark with certain lighting, then Firefox will update as well.

Applying a theme

You can view a selection of Firefox themes in the customization panel of Home / New Tab.

1. Open up a new window or tab.
2. Click the customize button in the bottom right corner.
3. Select and Appearance Setting and Theme.

This view shows a snapshot of Firefox themes, but you can see the full list including theme created by our Community in addons.mozilla.org.

1. Click the menu button , click Extensions and themes and select Recommendations or Themes.
2. Scroll through the suggested themes or visit addons.mozilla.org to browse more themes.
3. Click on the theme's author to see more information about it.
4. Click the + Install Theme button.

   

   • To install a theme from addons.mozilla.org, click on the theme and select the + Install Theme button on the resulting page.

   

   Firefox will download the requested theme and may notify you that it has been installed.

Managing installed themes

If you have installed a community theme, you can manage it through add-ons. Click the menu button , click Extensions and themes and select Themes.

• The theme being used will be shown at the top, under Enabled.
• Other available themes will be listed beneath, under DisabledSaved Themes.

Switch between installed themes

1. Click the menu button , click Extensions and themes and select Themes.
2. Scroll through the list of themes.
3. Click Enable to use that theme.

   

Remove installed themes

To remove an installed theme that you previously added to Firefox:

1. Click the menu button , click Extensions and themes and select Themes.
2. Click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon that displays for the theme that you want to remove and then select Remove.

Troubleshooting
