Even more just in the last few hours. I literally get a crash every time I go to https://splinternews.com/
It'll usually hold for 10 minutes or so, but that's about it. Then all of a sudden it crashes.

The last three crash report are OOM (out-of-memory) reports where not enough contiguous free memory is available.
- Firefox 61.0.1 Crash Report [@ OOM | small ]
Total Virtual Memory : 2,147,352,576 bytes (2.15 GB) Available Virtual Memory : 122,789,888 bytes (122.79 MB) Available Page File : 2,924,318,720 bytes (2.92 GB) Available Physical Memory : 534,581,248 bytes (534.58 MB) System Memory Use Percentage : 85 OOM Allocation Size : 131,072 bytes (131.07 KB)
The other reports are ShutDownKill type of crashes where Firefox takes to long to close properly and a crash is forced.
- Firefox 61.0.1 Crash Report [@ IPCError-browser | ShutDownKill ]
Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
- "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
- Windows: File -> Exit
- Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
- Linux: File -> Quit
Wait, am I reading this "solution" correctly? Are you really simply saying "close out the browser?"
In any case, didn't start experiencing this until a day or two ago. The only thing I can think of is that I've been sleeping my computer more often than usual instead of closing it down, and thus the sessions may be a bit longer. But of all the crashes I've had with Firefox before, I'm not sure I've ever had a problem of not having enough virtual memory to run Firefox even with my older OS.
I've tried navigating to splinter, and I can be on literally less than a minute before it crashes/hangs. I can't figure out if something changed there or not in the last day or two. I suspect it has something to do with the video ads, but this is the only website that crashes my browser.
To be Checked and turned off unless needed for accessibility : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Multi-Processor Support : Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.
Only Disable as last resort.
Multi-processor Can completely disable it this way in about:config : dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
Only move to esr if low ram and old system.
Firefox Extended Release Version : Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.

If you’re using an older machine, then even the typically speedy Firefox may slow down your PC with the default settings. Copy/Paste about:config to Address Bar and Enter Cop/Paste browser.sessionhistory.max_entriesto the Search Bar in the Window which runs full width and change the value to 25. Monitor to see if that helps. Remember what you did.
Turn off Preview Thumbnails while in there to save more ram : Copy/Paste browser.ctrlTab.previews and Double Click to False
Firefox saves your session every fifteen seconds by default, but you can change the value of : browser.sessionstore.interval so that Firefox will save the session at a longer interval. Default: 15000 (in msecs, equivalent to fifteen seconds) Modified value: Set it to your desired value. 1000 means one sec, and 60000 means one minute
