In Firefox - Thunderbird opens 15 or more sessions with one click

Using Thunderbird v. 45.2.0 and Firefox v. 47.0.1 Opened TB and it works fine. Opened Firefox and while it works well, the uppermost line of open files has at least 15 tabs of TB listed across top. Why? see screen shot

Probably because of something you did. I'm not going to speculate what this may have been.

In any case, you posted a screenshot of Firefox, and your question is about Firefox. But this is the Thunderbird support forum.

I am not sure how and why that occurred.

Maybe you repeatedly clicked something and it did not immediately open. If you can close those tabs, assuming they are unwanted, and they do not re-appear then you will not have problems.
