Due to a very corrupted-over-time Firefox install, I was forced to manually uninstall Firefox today. Corrupted to the point that Control Panel nor the uninstall/helper nor CCleaner would do it, so I had to manually delete all folders & files related to Mozilla.

Prior to doing so, I set up my system with Sync, and set it to 'take' passwords & bookmarks. When I log in to Sync from a clean install, nothing seems to happen.

Is there a command of some sort to 'pull' the information into this clean install?

It would have been better if you had made a backup copy of the Firefox profile folder.

Sync isn't meant to be used as a backup device and if there already were issues with Firefox then you should even be more careful with using Sync that way. Also note that the initial sync can take considerable time, so may not have been completed before you closed Firefox to uninstall. Did you verify that the sync had been completed properly?

Wasn't it possible to reset Firefox or didn't this help?

I cleared caches & DL history. I booted without add-ons. I ran entire computer in safe mode. I reset Firefox.

Nothing helped with the continual problem of it 'freezing' with a (Not Responding) message and locking up, literally every 3 or 4 minutes, for a good 45-60 seconds.

So decided to reinstall.

When I tried to uninstall Firefox using Control Panel, it wouldn't do it. When I tried to uninstall Firefox using uninstall/helper.exe, wouldn't do it. When I tried using CCleaner, wouldn't do it.

So only thing I could figure out to do was just wipe the slate and manually delete all things Mozilla and re-install. Unfortunately, is still happening.

Would pasting the Troubleshoot information help at all?

I do realize you guys aren't paid, and are just being helpful, so thanks for what you've responded to so far, and thanks in advance for any more help you might be able to offer!

Okay, I did backup the original before, so can see the places.sqlite file, as well as add-ons, cookies, healthreports, etc.

Is it a simple matter of using some function to access the bookmark and import? Or copying & pasting into a new folder?

places.sqlite is the Bookmarks file so you will need to put this in the Firefox profile folder You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Make sure Firefox is closed down when you do this.
