Three UI Issues

I'm a recent TB user and I'm still getting used to the new-to-me UI. (I had to give up Entourage when my 2017 iMac running Sierra died and I was forced to buy a new computer.)
–– First UI Issue: Next Unread I have read the forum threads on this topic and none of them seem to address my issue. I have my Inbox set to descend so that the most current emails are at the top of the (classic view) window. If I have (for instance) five unread messages, it's my custom to click into the fifth message (the oldest of the five). If after reading it, I *delete* that message, TB automatically moves to the next descending message, not the next unread message. Is there a way to make it automatically move upwards to the next unread message without changing from descending to ascending order (which wouldn't solve the problem anyway)?
–– Second UI Issue: Sans Serif font for incoming messages It seems that by default, incoming plain text messages are displayed in a serif font. I would like to read all incoming, plain text messages in a sans serif font. Is this possible?
–– Third UI Issue: Display of Junk mail I would like to view all messages that come into my Junk mail folder in the format in which they were sent, including complex HTML. By default they all display as plain text with no graphics. The only way to view them is to mark them as 'not junk' which automatically transfers them to the Inbox. Is there a way around this.

2. Set the display fonts and sizes in Preferences/General/Language & Appearance, Advanced, with Fonts for: Latin and repeat with Fonts for: Other Writing Systems. Uncheck 'Allow messages...'.
3. Don't know why, but maybe if these are marked by TB and not the mail provider, remote content in junk mail is disabled by default.

Thanks so much for the quick reply and for solving my first issue!! I had looked through config editor but didn't understand the coding language well enough to find what I needed.
As for the second, my version of TB doesn't have "Fonts for: Other Writing Systems." I've attached a screen shot so you can see what's there. I did uncheck 'Allow messages.' Is that sufficient in itself? (I guess I'll find out the next time one of those messages comes in.)
And where Junk mail formatting is concerned, I had assumed it was disabled by default but was hoping there was a way to change that. Maybe I should start a separate thread for just that issue?
See the attached picture that show Other Writing Systems in the Fonts for: drop-down. It has been there for the last few versions of TB.
Yes, start a new topic for junk formatting. If the Junk is managed by the mail provider, there might not be an option for formatting.
Thanks again! I misunderstood and was looking in the wrong place. However, unchecking "allow messages" alone seems to have done the trick.
I'm quite sure the Junk is not managed by the mail provider (in this case earthlink.net) since these messages revert to normal formatting when marked as not junk. Also, I never had this issue in other email clients (Entourage and then 4 others I tried and abandoned before finding TB). I'll start another thread.

FYI: I just found an answer to the junk mail issue in another thread as written by Toad-Hall:
"Well if marked as Junk and put into Junk folder then all remote content will not be displaying. So when you say lacking formatting and graphics, perhaps you do not mean Plain Text, maybe you just mean Thunderbird has stopped all remote content. Thunderbird auto blocks all remote content for very obvious privacy reasons. You would have to accept the risks if you wanted to allow remote content for either specific email addresses or allowing remote content in all cases. This would be something you would have to enable, but regardless nothing set as junk will show remote content."
