Hi,

My mail is always marked as deleted when I delete a mail and not moved to my imap trash folder. I can change it in: Tools -> Account Settings -> <account> -> Server Settings -> When I delete a message: Move it to this folder: INBOX/Trash

And this works great! But after I quit Thunderbird the settings are not saved / reverted back.

When I look in the Config Editor: Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General tab -> Config Editor

I see the string: mail.server.server1.trash_folder_name With the value: INBOX/Trash

After I quit and restart Thunderbird this value is always changed back to: Trash

Steps taken: - I have checked if my profile file is writable and it is writable. - I have installed Thunderbird on 2 different PC's and they also have this issue.

Any tips???

This is just a guess. Are you running software like CCleaner which is messing with your Thunderbird profile? If so, tell it to leave the Thunderbird profile alone.

Thank you for the tip. I don't have CCleaner installed.

I have tested Thunderbird on 2 different PC's (Windows 7 and a clean Windows 10 install). The test is done with a clean profile, and I did not use a backup of the profile. On both PC's I have the same problem.

On my Apple iDevices I have selected the Trash folder and there it is saved.

ok, lets play just a little.

Close Thunderbird. Open the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Delete) locate the Thunderbird task in the processes tab. Close Thunderbird.

Does the task disappear?

Hold the shift key while starting Thunderbird and continue in safe mode when prompted. Change the setting Restart into safe mode again and see if it stuck.

Again, did the Thunderbird task disappear from the task list?

I think what may be happening is your suffering a shutdown hang, Thunderbird stays running with no user interface.

A shutdown hang will prevent the change being written to the prefs.js file.

Do you have any other software you routinely install, such as an anti virus? I am not aware of Thunderbird with no add-ons hanging by itself. But with the help of anti virus software or other, usually utility, software it does happen.

open explorer and monitor the time on the prefs.js file throughout. it should update when the prefs are read, and again on close down when they are written.

Thank you for the tip. I have tested starting and ending Thunderbird both in safe mode and normal mode. In all the tests the task disappears from the task list.

I also monitored the prefs.js file and I noticed this behavior: When I change the setting in Thunderbird I can see the setting is changed in prefs.js: user_pref("mail.server.server1.trash_folder_name", "INBOX/Trash");

When I restart Thunderbird the setting is still there in the prefs.js file but the setting does not work in Thunderbird. (mail is marked as deleted, not moved to Trash).

When I close Thunderbird again (without changing anything in the settings) the setting in prefs.js is reverted back: user_pref("mail.server.server1.trash_folder_name", "Trash");
