my version (the latest) does not have the icon you say to drag to the desktop

I've been trying to add a website address shortcut to my desktop. I Googled how to do it, and Mozilla said to drag the icon/logo that's to the left of the address bar to the desktop, an easy task if there was an icon/logo there, which there isn't, not on any web address. So what should be simple isn't, and I'm out of ideas.
