When I bring up the Print dialog in every application but Firefox, I see a preview of what will come out of the printer. I could use the Print Preview add-on, but I'd like Firefox to be consistent with all of the other apps on my system. Any suggestions?

(Firefox also doesn't print in draft quality, even when I select a pre-defined print setting that works in all other apps. Don't know if that's related, but I thought I'd throw it in.)

Version 17.0.1 on Mac 10.8.2

thanks

Hello,

I'm hoping this dialogue will be updated to be the same as Safari's print options, but if not, and for now, here's how to adjust the print options for Firefox.

How to Adjust the Header and Footer: As with Safari and most web browsers, Firefox will usually by default add information about the date, time, url etc. to the printed page, while this is usually helpful many printables sites try to squeeze as much onto your printable as possible so that it works out to be a better size in the end.

To remove this information, simply change all the drop boxes to say "(Blank)" in both the Page Headers and Page Footers. there's a screenshot showing what I mean.

How to Remove Margins: The print dialogue box for Firefox is much different than Safari's, to remove the margins go to File -> Page Setup... Then choose your paper size (Borderless), then click OK. Letter size is the default setting for mine (8.5 x 11.0 inches) and Letter Borderless works well with the larger images here at Mint Printables. If your brand of printer doesn't have that option, try the steps for OS X margin settings to set a custom page size, or visit your printer's company website to see if they have a fix.

For printing at sites, depending on their setup using File -> Print... should work most of the time.

Sincerly,

Black Thunder.

Thanks, but that's not quite what I was looking for, though it's helpful.

The image shows what I mean (or look at http://www.screencast.com/t/B8wwIM3gALQ).

The top part shows printing a file in Safari, the bottom printing a file in Firefox. Notice that in Safari (as in all other apps on my Mac), there's a preview pane on the left side. I can't make that appear in Firefox.

Any ideas?

thanks

Well thats why i started my previous answer with "I'm hoping this dialogue will be updated to be the same as Safari's print options", you need to use one of the add-ons to have a print preview until firefox updates it on mac.

A quick work-around is to use the PDF button at the bottom of the Print dialog, then select Open PDF in Preview. It opens a temp file in Preview that is deleted when Preview is closed. I know, it's not a true print preview but it also gives you options to save, cut-n-paste, or even edit your print.

I also wonder why there is no "print preview" option in the Firefox print dialog box. I don't want a "workaround"—I simply want a print preview option the same way every other Mac application provides it in the print dialog box.

Where did this go??

I agree with mickowitz.

Not good enough Firefox ... another couple of months have passed and STILL no update with this basic 'preview'.
