Hi Folks. Thunderbird 102.2.1 (32-bit)

On the above release I'm suddenly unable to edit a contact's details in the address book.

Previously the dropdown box gave options to 'Edit', or 'Delete', but now the dropdown has two 'Delete' options only, one of which has replaced 'Edit'.

Many thanks. Les S.

Thanks thomas8.

On receipt of an email the new sender/contact was added to my address book (as per my settings).

I hit 'Reply', and in the open composition window which also shows my Contacts in the side bar, I noticed that I wanted to edit the way the sender's name was displayed in the side-bar.

Right clicked the Contact expecting to find the Edit option (as per since the 00's)? at the bottom of the Dropdown List only to discover two Delete options instead (as per screen shot).

Thanks for your follow-up info'. I am indeed able to edit the contact via; Tools/ Address Book/Edit - long winded but works fine - though I'll miss being able to do it in a Compose window 'on the fly'. Guess you've fixed this one for me so Many Thanks. Just leaves that baffling expanded 2xDelete label to take a look at.

Regards. Les S.

This is about the context menu of contacts in Contacts Side bar of composition window. The perceived double Delete Delete is really just Delete Contact with the associated Delete key shortcut (not sure why the label for that was expanded from previous Del).

With the arrival of the new Address book, the following contextual actions have been removed from contacts sidebar:

  • Edit Contact (from contact's context menu)
  • New Contact (from AB context menu at the top)
  • New List (dito)

The decision has been made on these bugs which requested restoring these:

https://bugzil.la/1771795 - Edit Contact (and Alt+Enter keyboard shortcut on Windows) missing from context menu of a contact in Contacts Sidebar https://bugzil.la/1771761 - New Contact and New List disappeared from address book context menu on Contacts Side Bar

Editing or creating contacts/lists while composing is now only possible from the main address book. For received messages, you can use Edit contact icon on a recipient (or its context menu).

HippyChippy (reporter), can you describe your scenario/usecase, like why you are missing `Edit contact` from the context menu of contact items in Contacts Sidebar, and how/how often you have been using this before?

HippyChippy, thanks for your feedback. I also miss being able to edit a contact "on the fly", directly from composition's Contacts Sidebar where I'm already seeing it right in front of me. As you pointed out, having to navigate to the main AB and search for the contact there again is quite long winded and inefficient.

Are you able to mark my first answer as Chosen Solution?
