I like the pocket suggestions underneath the the search bar but cannot easily read what I type in the address bar & do not want to be forced to. FF flatly calls this better which is flat out, arrogant none sense as the font size is too small for so many & only causes eye & overall psychological strain. Must I permanently switch to google absent all pocket suggestions to achieve search & navigation in the search bar, in the middle of the page? Seriously. There does not appear to be an option to do so as before. Not allowing the option is at least arrogant & short sighted. Is there any chance FF will show more respect for its users in this respect & allow it?

Hi

If I understand your problem correctly. You want, for example, to be able to search from the Firefox search window that appears in the middle of your home page without it automatically switching your search to the address bar as soon as you type the first character?

I want to do this too. Like you I prefer the larger font the in-page or in-tab search function uses, rather than the tiny font the address bar uses.

I believe that I have found the 'solution' to this, but as I'm not an official tech support person, I can't vouch for it. You use it at your own risk!

You have to use about:config. I assume you are already familiar with it. If you search for "search" in it's search window, one of the search results that should pop up is:

browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar

The default boolean value for that is "True". I have changed it to "False" and that appears to stop the search from being swapped to the address bar from the current tab as soon as you start typing.

I have only tested this on one tab very quickly, swapping the boolean value back and forth, but it seems to have the desired effect. If this is relevant I hope it will help you. I got lucky finding the solution. Now all I have to do is to get lucky with the other half-dozen issues I have with Firefox 89. It really looks like a rushed and half-finished product, to be honest. It's the most disagreeable change I've experienced in Firefox in many, many years.

THANKS! That seems to have indeed worked. Please share with FF as you can. "Rushed and half finished? Really? I hope that's atypical?
