thunderbird: 68.7.0 (32 bit). I spotted 2 strange things. I am on a 64 bit machine, and the about window notifies me I am on a release-update channel ?

Question:

1: I got another unwanted and unneeded update and now the reply-bar is aligned to the right. Actually the entire header is aligned right. (pic 1) 2: If I stretch the thunderbird window the reply-bar is actually placed BEHIND the header (pic 2).

solutions I tried:

I tried "aanpassen" (adjust?), right click, If I remove the reply button, nothing changes. There are no white spaces in front of the bar. Reset to standard ("standaardset herstellen") changes nothing. Starting in safe mode with add-ons off and/or re-initialise (don't know translation): nothing changes There are NO add-ons installed, theme is standard.

This is frustrating as heck. I don;t want my layout to be pushed right hand side of my screen. Please advise?

AHA! It is solved (and should be put into a FAQ).

In the menu there is an option to show "HEADERS" (kopregels). If it is set to "ALL", the center part of the screen is aligned to the right. If it is set to "NORMAL", all returns to normal. Bug or feature? Thats the question... :)

Hi I think mine has been aligned right for a while. It may depend on the View option you are using - do you have it set to Classic, Wide, or Vertical view? I can't tell from the images. Here is description of view options, with images. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-change-thunderbird-layout Agnes

It is set to classic view. Why oh why would this be changed without my permission on my pc?

So if you change it to other view styles, do you get the layout you had before? If so please let us know your question is solved. Some TB functions can change if you hit keyboard shortcuts - like if you hit A while in the emails list that sends the message to Archives. Not sure if there is a shortcut to toggle the view but it might have been an inadvertent mouse click on an icon or a keyboard combination.

Classic, wide and vertical screenshots attached. To answer your question: nope. Still aligned to the right (even on the wide...). Is there maybe a "reset to standard view" option?

All the Reply, Forward, Archive etc buttons are located correctly and have been like this ever since tabs were placed below the 'Menu Bar' toolbar. This left little space for buttons on toolbar and so buttons that related specifically to a displayed email were moved into the header area and aligned to the right. The 'date' was also positioned on the right below 'More' button. That occured years ago.

The image I supply below is now about four years old; just to show how the default has been for a long time, but it clearly shows the right alignment of buttons that appear in the header area.

However, in your image the actual email headers 'FROM, Subject, TO', they should be aligned to the left and that part does not look correct. I'll have a search for this and try to locate what is going on.

I also note that you have the 'Menu Bar' still appearing in a tab. I'll look into that as well because that changed ages ago by default.

Did you ever alter this, although it would have been a long time ago?

Suggest try resetting some files.

In Thunderbird

  • Help > TRoubleshooting Information
  • click on 'Open folder' button

This opens a window showing contents of your 'profile name' folder.

  • Exit Thunderbird now.

Delete the following files.

  • session.json
  • xulstore.json

Start Thunderbird.

Please report back on results.

In a tab? It is part of the window? I put the menu back as soon as it disapears. I can only work the program with the menu-bar.

Same result. The buttons reply/forward/.. are right aligned, as is the from/subject/...

I expected the menu-bar to have gone missing with that deletion. It is still "on".
