Could you copy/paste any detailed error information on the connection error page? You may need to click an "Advanced" button to reveal that information.

I don't know how to cut and paste but the notification said "Secure Connection Failed".

Does the page have an Advanced button you could click for more detailed information? I'm hoping that will identify the problem more specifically.

What does "Your connection is not secure" mean?

When Firefox connects to a secure website (the URL begins with "https://"), it must verify that the certificate presented by the website is valid and that the encryption is strong enough to adequately protect your privacy. If the certificate cannot be validated or if the encryption is not strong enough, Firefox will stop the connection to the website and instead show an error page:

Fx44 Insecure Connection

To troubleshoot secure connection problems with the error message Secure Connection Failed, see the Troubleshoot the "Secure Connection Failed" error message article.

Unfortunately, that isn't what I was hoping for, either.

Could you try inspecting the certificate a different way. Here are the steps:

Select and copy the following "address"

chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

Then paste that in the address bar and press Enter to load the Exception dialog page. IMPORTANT: until we confirm that this problem is not caused by a hack, please do not actually save an exception for this site.

In the form, next to the word Location where it has https:// go ahead and enter the site address https://www.creditkarma.com/

Then click Get Certificate. If Firefox cannot retrieve the certificate, is there any explanation of the problem? If Firefox can retrieve the certificate, please click the View button to see whether there is anything odd/suspicious. I am attaching a screen shot for comparison.

There actually are a variety of Firefox settings that could cause issues if they were changed. Could you check for any non-default preferences for secure connection-related preferences? Here's how:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste TLS and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If you have any "user set" preferences here, try using the default values (right-click the preference, then from the context menu > Reset)

(4) In the search box above the list, type or paste SECURITY.SSL and pause while the list is filtered

(5) If you have any "user set" preferences here, try using the default values (right-click > Reset), however, it's okay to set these to false (this helps work around old servers vulnerable to a Logjam attack):

  • security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha
  • security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha
