Hello,

I recently installed Thunderbird (ver. 45) on my computer (with Windows 7) to replace Windows Live Mail, which will no longer work with Microsoft’s new sync standard. But I‘m having some trouble with the Lists function created in the Address Book.

I have created a number of lists under a Address Book since I send out Newsletters to different contacts. I then added contacts to the different lists by dragging and dropping them into a particular list, and they seem to be added to the list. However, when I highlight the lists, I see only a portion of the contacts placed in the list. For example, if I placed about 30 contacts in a list, when I highlight the list I see only about 12 contacts. The total seen varies from one list to another. I then try to add more contacts, but when I highlight the list, I still don’t see the additional contacts. However, if I right click on the list and click on Properties, I see the newly added contacts. But when I close the Address Book and then open it again, the new contacts are still not visible in the highlighted list, nor in the Properties for that list. Out of the 8 created Lists, only one of them allows me to add more contacts.

I came across a posting in the Thunderbird Forum where the person had a similar problem, but no solution was given, except that the person who posted the item said that he resolved it by uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird. This appeared to resolve the issue. So I uninstalled and reinstalled TB, but that did not resolve the problem. Does anyone know what is going on, and how to resolve it? I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird rarely makes any difference. Most problems are related to the profile and this remains in place and unchanged when the program itself is uninstalled/reinstalled/updated.

Do note that some changes don't become apparent until Thunderbird is closed and restarted.

I'd suspect that your issues are related to a corrupt address book file. I described how to fix one here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1119236#answer-868201
