I just got a new laptop (HP Spectre 360 running Windows 10 Home) and am having trouble setting up Thunderbird (38.1.0) for my existing email accounts. I've tried 3 times to add different accounts (all gmail accounts), but each time I reach the page where I have to agree to Google & Mozilla's terms, the system crashes. When I try to reopen the application, it doesn't launch, I just get the spinning blue wheel for a split second over the Thunderbird icon, and then it goes away but Thunderbird never launches until I reboot my computer and try launching Thunderbird again.

On a potentially related noted, the link from the page referenced above to read the agreement terms, doesn't respond when clicked.

Resolved this one on my own a few days later when trying various changes in settings to try to get my email accounts setup. So just in case anyone comes across the same issue, it was an issue with the authentication type (under manual configuration), which was defaulting to OAuth2, whereas it needed to be set to Normal Password.

What you describe sounds like a hang where the system goes unresponsive, not a crash where app dies and goes away and you can restart the app. Is that correct?

These "pages" are opened in thunderbird not in a browser, correct?

Wayne, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. I was actually able to resolve the issue a day or two ago. It turned out to be a simple oversight on my part in the authentication settings. It was defaulting to OAuth2 and needed to be set as "normal password". I add a note to the bottom of my original question, but couldn't figure out how to close the ticket.

As far as your question on crash vs hanging, there were no open windows, and task manager didn't show any processes for Thunderbird after I experienced the issues, so that makes me think it was a crash rather than hanging. I think the pages opened in Thunderbird, but am not positive about that and of course can't reproduce the issue now to confirm.

Thanks again for your help, and please feel free to close this ticket or tell me how to do so.
