I installed W7 with IE11and downloaded the latest TB (27.0.1) I have added five email accounts (more to be added) and none of them show up in the left pane - only global Inbox and two folders I created. I can get new messages manually one account at a time, but "get new messages for all accounts" (or Shift F5) does nothing. Most of this happed after MS installed well over 100 updates to my W7, but some of my accounts never did show up in the left pane even before the W7 updates. I have reinstalled TB - nothing changes.

Matt, I thank you for your kind and gracious response (Ok I will say this only once....). Be assured that I would never think of asking your advice again.

The crux of the matter has been resolved by checking the “Include this server when getting new mail” box in each account’s “Advanced” box under “Server Settings.” Now every time TB checks for new mail (including on startup), the process is displayed in the lower left portion of the window. I wish this had been explained to me more clearly early on.

Having all accounts in the left pane has become unimportant now that I can see the mail being checked on startup, periodically, and on Shift F5.

I consider this thread closed.

Account do not all show in the left pane, P OP mail account default to the use of the global inbox instead of separate account folders. IMAP account unfortunately can not use the global inbox and store their mail in account folders.

You can force POP account to appear on their own in Tools menu (alt +T) >account settings > server settings > advanced button and inbox for this account.

After more research, the TB27 does, in fact, seem to be working, but I am not sure on all my email accounts. My older TB showed the emails accounts being checked in the lower left hand corner, and TB27 only does that when you manually ask it to check a specific account. This may (or may not) have to do with the accounts not showing up in the left pane. What I would really like to have is all my email accounts and local folders displayed all the time in the left pane. Can that be accomplished?

The current Thunderbird Release is 24.3.0. There is no 27.0.1 like with Firefox however there is the generated single Beta build 27.0b1. The next major Thunderbird release will be Tb 31.0

Oops - my mistake - I confused my FF with TB. I have TB24.3.0. I just added a couple more email accounts - one shows up in the left pane (at least for now) but the other one doesn't - and I have no idea why. . . .

Why post a message about Thunderbird in a Firefox forum?

more options

@Tinitarry Because this is also the Thunderbird support forum. That might be why.

See under "Product" where it says Thunderbird.

Finitarry the Thunderbird support is being moved from the Get Satisfaction forum to here. Thunderbird Questions has been here since oh February 21.

If it was a issue about this Thunderbird question being posted here, I or another mod or even a support regular would have pointed the poster to the get satisfaction and mozillazine forums for help.

It would cause less confusion if the title were changed from "Firefox Support Forum" to "Mozilla Apps Support Forum" or perhaps "Firefox & Thunderbird Support".

my first post on 3/4/14 7:01 PM told you haw to make all account visible in the left pane. Perhaps ou need to go back to the beginning and read it.

@ Matt: May have worked on earlier versions, but doesn't work on TB24.3.0 _ the "Advanced" box only deals with reassigning messages to the Global Inbox, which I use rather than looking at a dozen different account inboxes.

Ok I will say this only once.... Use the global inbox and your accounts do not show on the left pane. Don't use the global inbox and they will. The exception is IMAP accounts, they must use their own account folders and always appear in the account pane as the global inbox is not an option.

BTW the global inbox functionality has remained unchanged since Version 2 ( I personally have no experience further back)

You might consider using the unified view under folder on the view menu, I hate it, but is does provide a list on the left (not using global inbox) and a unified inbox to look at.

So i am not allowed to be frustrated by repeating myself. I an sorry you did not get your questions answered factually when you asked it in the first place. But I see the answer is not related more than vaguely to the question asked.
