Computers should not be suddenly unplugged, other than in emergencies (& power failures). Always try to close Firefox using the menu option, File -> quit or whatever is shown in the Firefox XP menu, then also close down Windows XP and wait before turning off the power and unplugging.

If you have been crashing a lot that in itself may cause problems.

Have you inadvertently set firefox to clear things on closing down or to use permanent private browsing ?

You may also note that FlashPlayer 11.3 may sometimes cause problems and crashes. (Although XP will not be using protected mode - one of the problem factors). You could consider disabling Flash Player to see if that helps.
