When you are presented with a text field, sometimes when you type, a small list of words you entered previously will drop down. You can then select one of those previous words, or continue with what you were originally typing. This is the Autofill feature for Firefox.

Lately, it has been a pain. After an hour or so of use, the instant I click on a text field to type something (usually for searching), the autofill box would partially drop down, only for Firefox to completely hang up. Once you recover from the initial crash, the autofill bug would not appear until at least an hour later. I tried turning off Autofill, but it cost me access to my History, so I was forced to do a complete browser reset. This issue has been with me for about a couple of weeks, and I have no idea why it's doing this.

Turning off "Use Hardware Acceleration" does the trick, but it comes with a caveat: sites that use WebGL or WebAssembly will be choppy or slow. For example, browser games on GSN Worldwinner that use up a lot of memory and are animation intensive like Bejeweled Champions or Scrabble Boggle will be affected by this toggle. Gameplay is okay, but it's not ideal.

I need a remedy where I can still have Hardware Acceleration off as a workaround for the autofill crash without it affecting online gaming.

An update: the crashes have returned, and it is not limited to the Autofill. It also happens to crash whenever I do the following:

1. Open a new tab 2. Access anything in the browser, ex. opening the Downloads folder through its icon

I'm not sure if it'll help, but I did get a copy of the Windows crash report:

Description:

A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
