Hi. When I download something in private browsing mode, I understand that it doesn't appear in download window. How do I cancel a download without closing the private window? I don't want to close all windows because I have several tabs opened and it will be really cumbersome to close all tabs and trying to open all of them again just so that I can cancel one download.

Details of my system is as following.

Name Firefox Version 24.7.0 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0

Thanks.

You can perform the same actions for downloads in Private Browsing mode as in your regular browsing window. There is no downloads pop-up, but a separate tab should open for downloads in Private Browsing. Alternatively, while in a Private Browsing window, you can enter about:downloads to your address bar, and it should show you your downloads that are happening in your Private Browsing windows.

On another note, is there a reason why you are using Firefox version 24? The current Firefox version is 32.0.2

The about:downloads solution works.

However, the first part of your answer is not really the same as what I am experiencing. In private browsing in my case, there is a downloads pop-up, but what I am downloading is not listed. So what I see is an empty download window. I can only see my download at about:downloads page.

Well in any case my problem is solved. Thank you.

Strange, for me if I click that downloads button in the Private Browsing window, it shows me the downloads that are happening in that mode. If I switch back to a window that isn't in Private Browsing, that button shows me the downloads I have in my regular browsing. Perhaps it is because we are using different versions of Firefox.

In any case glad to have helped. Please mark either your post or mine as the Chosen Solution so that this question can be marked as solved and the answer pushed to the top.

Note that Firefox 24.8.0 is the current ESR release (click Show: Firefox 24).

That should work with the ESR version as well and while in a Private Browsing mode tab/window you get the about:downloads page in a tab in that window and if you are in a non-private mode tab you get the Downloads folder in the Library by default, but the about:downloads page shows the downloads made in normal mode. I can toggle the state of about:downloads tab with the Private Tab extension to switch between the two modes and see their content change.
