I saw someone else had a question like this a couple months ago but I tried the fixes and nothing works.

Under Customize my "Bookmarks Toolbar" is checked. All my bookmarks showed up on the left. But now I actually have to hit the Bookmarks tab to see them. Also, when I hit the plus sign in the blank toolbar/tabs area it is also checked off. I did uncheck and check but it did not help. The only thing I changed on FF was yesterday I changed in privacy for history to track because if it does not track then I cannot use my PW protector to ask if I want to save a new PW. When I changed this nothing happened to my toolbar then.

I only had to start up in safe mode, close and then when starting up again regularly the bookmarks sidebar began appearing. Thanks.

Hello,

While you may have your "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible, you also need to have the item "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the toolbar to have your bookmarks shown. You can try clicking "Restore Defaults" to see if that makes them visible.

If you find that also doesn't solve your problem, can you go to:

  • Bookmarks Bookmarks-29 > Show All Bookmarks
  • Open the "Bookmarks Toolbar" in this window by double clicking it to make sure that bookmarks are actually in this submenu

You can also try running in Firefox Safe Mode to see if an extension might be causing the issue.

Yes, all my bookmarks exist. They are in the book marks icon or the tab. They are most definitely available. But the option of them appearing to the left of my FF Window is gone. My tool bar bookmarks are still where they should be.

There is nothing to restore. They are there. But why are they not all coming up with my FF open Window? Where is the option to have them all appear to the left of my open window?

I just found the "Show Sidebars" icon and moved it to my toolbar (never had to do that before it was in menu) and then clicked on "bookmarks" and it came up on my current Window. However, when I open a new Window it is not SET like it used to be. I have to click on it again to have my Bookmarks show up on the left side of the Window. What do I do to SET it, lock it in to automatically come up when I open a Window.

I think I see what you mean now - the bookmarks sidebar is not staying in new windows for you. Can you try the bookmarks sidebar in Firefox Safe Mode to see if it works there? If it does, then your issue might be caused by an extension.

If the above doesn't help, one user with a similar issue created a new Firefox profile - Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles. If the new profile experiences no issues with the sidebar, you can transfer your essential information by following this guide: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. The downside is that you will need to reinstall your extensions in your new profile - note you can use this extension to backup all of your extension preferences to speed up the process:

This can also be used to backup your extensions:

If you export to installable .xpi files, you can open Firefox in your new profile, and then click and drag those xpi files from Windows Explorer into Firefox to install them - make sure that you use the xpis from FEBE first or install your extensions first before installing the xpis from OPIE.

Strange way for it to get fixed, but I'm glad it works for you now.

Can you select your last post as the solution so that others with the same/similar problem can quickly find what they need to do? Thanks!

Sounds like there had been an issue with the localstore.rdf file.
