Newly opened windows can trash history and groups if closed last

If I have FF set up to remember last opened tabs and groups, and I open a new window (or a link opens in a new window), then if I don't see that "new" window and close my main one, all my tabs and groups are lost. In fact the browser will remember just that link, and the main window closed before (with all the tabs, groups, application tabs) gets lost. This is not just frustrating, but a real design and concept flaw!
