I am trying to migrate my Thunderbird account from PC Windows 10 to a new PC Windows 11. The installation selects my provider and settings correctly but when I try and sign in, I get the above message. I have not the first idea where to start there. any help would be appreciated. I still have a copy on a windows 11 laptop that I can use to enter settings, but I can't get that far with the installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't add my Yahoo Mail account because of an authentication error.
The following message is displayed: "Authentication error Can't sign in to the server. Please check your username, password, and settings."
The authentication method "OAuth2" does not appear.
I can sign in and receive mail with the same ID and password in a web browser.
Thank you for your help.
I need to add my email and password to add Thunderbird to another computer. it wants a password that I never had.

Hi all! I'm having an issue with Thunderbird in conjunction with my Outlook account.
I used to be able to add my account just fine (using OAuth2). But for a few months now, I have been getting "Authentication failed" errors (see first picture).
It used to be that I could temporarily remedy this by signing out and back in. Today, however, I was unable to sign back in, using the stock settings for Outlook (see second - fourth picture). No authentication popup appeared.
I was sporadically able to add the account and get messages to start appearing by clicking on "Edit configuration" and removing and re-adding the hostname for the IMAP server, without an authentication popup appearing. I therefore suspected that there might be some half-stale credentials stuck in the cache, and there probably were, because after clearing my cache this method doesn't work anymore. I am still not getting any authentication popup though.
All the usual suspects I already tried: Thunderbird is up-to-date (151.0.1), my Outlook account definitely has IMAP and SMTP activated, and another mail account (gmail) works without a hitch on the same system.
I hope that someone can help me, as I'm at my wit's end. Thanks in advance!

I have a new computer and I am loading my email accounts into TB. One of them loaded perfectly but the outlook account has been trouble. I have read several forum questions/answers and tried all of the suggestions with no help. I will attach a screen print of the page I get when prompted to enter password credentials. I cannot go further until I can get TB and Outlook to communicate so I need help. I don't want to use Outlook as an email server if possible.

Thunderbird 148+ on Windows 11 repeatedly prompts for the password when synchronizing an Exchange account (professional) configured with the native Exchange support (no add-on installed).
The account only offers “NTLM” or “Normal password” authentication methods. OAuth2 is not available in the account settings.
During synchronization, Thunderbird asks for the password separately for many folders. However, clicking “Retry” usually works immediately without changing the password, and manually re-entering the same password also works.
The issue then reappears for the next folder, causing continuous authentication prompts (I have many folders...).
Actions already tested:
The problem persists.
This looks like an authentication/session handling issue rather than an actual invalid password.

I have a large number of email accounts configured in Thunderbird, roughly 20 or more.
Occasionally, one of the accounts needs to re-authenticate or re-enter its password. When that happens, Thunderbird opens a password/authentication dialog, but the dialog does not clearly tell me which configured email account triggered it.
With only one or two accounts this might not be a serious issue, but with many accounts it becomes very difficult to know which account needs attention. I may see a login prompt, but I do not know whether it belongs to a reg@r...p.com or work@r...p.com, or jobs@r...p.com, or hello@r...p.com, and so on.
I get it, outgoing SMTP servers can be shared or associated with multiple identities/accounts. In my setup though, each outgoing account is effectively one-to-one, and I still have no practical way to tell which email address the login prompt is for.
Even when an outgoing server is shared by more than one account, it would still help if the prompt showed the related a list of the accounts/identities connected to that outgoing server.

This is a Thunderbird question so be patient :). All of a sudden I was locked of MyMail and Mail on iPad and iPhone so I updated my comcast password but I can't update it in Thunderbird because it isn't accepting my old password. When I try to send a message there's a window that pops up that says why it wasn't sent and it says enter new password but when I click on that it goes away and doesn't let me enter one. When trying to figure this out I googled and it suggested removing all providers if I wanted to use all new credentials. So I have to add Comcast back in but I don't know how. So now it doesn't give me the option to show passwords. So i screwed up. How do I straighten this out? Plus it is now almost midnight and I have not received any new emails since this morning. I think part of this is the business about having to change to a new Comcast email system. But I still need help with the password issue. I have an appointment with Comcast tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I can start to get emails in MyMail. TIA.

In Thunderbird a password for an email account was deleted from the password list, but then how is a new password applied to that same mail account? I'm only getting error login messages with no apparent field, or opportunity to enter a new password. I'm concerned starting fresh and deleting the email account itself will delete all my saved emails associated with that account.

I just bought a new desktop computer. It is a Lenovo using Windows 11. I downloaded Thunderbird (.exe) and attempted to install. The installation program does not recognize my credentials. I get an error message that says "Authentication error. Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." I have tried every variation I can think of, but no luck. I enlisted Best Buy Geek Squad, and over 2 hours later they have determined that the computer itself has no problems--it is Thunderbird that is refusing to recognize my credentials. I have 4 other devices--2 Iphones, an Ipad, and a laptop using Windows 10, and all have been, and still are, using Thunderbird with no issues. How do I get Thunderbird to recognize my credentials, which are valid on 4 other devices?
I tried to email and the password to send that email used to be accepted and now that password isn't accepted anymore.
