How do you remove the Ask Search toolbar?
no details.... I don't know what I did to cause the Ask search toolbar to suddenly appear on my AOL News page. I just want instructions on how to remove it. I am not the most knowledgeable person on the block when it comes to dealing with a virus and a hacker's desire to mess up people's computers, but I can follow your instructions .

moreover your profile folder shows presence of user.js file but this file is not created by default in Firefox, so you may want to also check for a user.js file and DELETE that.

Note that such a toolbar can come as an unwanted extra when you install or update software (e.g. Java, Flash) on your computer.
It is always a good idea to check if there aren't any boxes present that are checked off by default.

You can do a check for ask.com prefs on the about:config page and reset user set (bold) TEXT prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.
- you can open the about:config page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue
