Watching a video, it stops, communication with Internet stops

I am watching a U-Tube video. I leave the video before it is done, or stop the video. Only when I do this does it seem that Firefox stops working. But maybe it is the ability to download anything from the Internet that stops. Firefox sends out the URL page request --but never get a response, and nothing further (web pages) download. Other software also can send packets but nothing ever comes back. Maybe the firewall? It is AVG Internet Security 2013. Only solution has been to re-boot the computer. I had this problem with this computer when it was an Windows XP operating system. This computer has been upgraded to Windows 7. But still having the same problem.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Tried to watch a video in Firefox Safe Mode. Same problem occurred. Video froze up, Firefox no longer communicated at all with the Internet. Internet connection still open, working, and strong signal.

A computer re-boot is the only way to fix it. Exiting Firefox and restarting it does not fix the problem, even when the problem happens in safe mode.

My add ons are:

Content Type -- Action

Adobie Acrobat Forms Document (application/vnd.adobie.xfdf) -- Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)

Adobie Acrobat Forms Document (application/vnd.fdf) -- Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)

Adobie Acrobat XML Data Package File -- Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)

irc -- Always ask

ircs -- Always ask

mailto -- Use EUDORA (default)

Podcast -- Preview in Firefox

Portable Document Format (PDF) -- Preview in Firefox

Video Podcast -- Preview in Firefox

Web Feed -- Preview in Firefox

webcal -- Always ask

I do not know what "irc" or "ircs" or "webcal" does, or is.

Have you troubleshooted the Flash Plugin's "protected mode" (disabling it and see if videos load)?

I downloaded Adobe Flash Player 11.0.03 again. Downloaded RealPlayer 16.0.3.51 -- overwriting the same versions already installed on my computer. Then disabled the Flash Plugin's "protected mode" by adding "ProtectedMode-0" to the <mms.cfg> file.

The playing videos worked for longer than usual but when in U-Tube the same problem happened again: Firefox sends out the URL page request --but never get a response, and nothing further (web pages) download. Other software also can send packets but nothing ever comes back.

My system would not let me download Flash 11.3 or earlier (and I'm not really wanting to open that security hole).
