When I pull up my Pinterest website, it will not display pictures, only some words. It's like the links are broken.

When I pull up Pinterest, the pictures on my boards will not show up. It just has some words. It said it may be because my browser was not updated. I was using Internet Explorer and I tried updating to Windows Microsoft 8. That did not solve the problem. I then installed Firefox as my browser but the pictures still do not come up. It did not give me that error message though that my browser was out of date. What do I need to do to make Pinterest work correctly and show images and video clips that are on my boards and on the site in general?

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

  • Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden "Menu Bar" temporarily.
  • Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
  • Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
  • Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load imagess > Exceptions"
  • Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
  • Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a check-mark then remove this check-mark to unblock images from this domain.

Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

I had this problem. I solved it by disabling the Avast Online Security Extension 9.0.2006.53 updated Dec. 11, 2013.

I can confirm that it was Avast causing the issue for me as well, but I did not want to disable the security extension.

The simple fix for me was clicking on the green Avast icon in the menu bar. It's a new feature and it tells you about if the website is tracking you, etc. and allows you to easily adjust it.

In the case of Pinterest, I found an item that said "Social networks blocked." I had to move the slider on this item to get the images to show.

I hope that helps. :)

P.S. You might have to refresh the page to get the changes to take effect.

Thank you so much writethinker. I was sorely upset by this problem and spent a very frustrated hour trying to figure out why my browser wouldn't allow my pictures to show on Pinterest. I wound up clearing all my history, cache, cookies... in Firefox trying to fix things, which is something I'm not at all happy about. Until I finally tried another browser did I realize that the problem lay elsewhere and began a web search for other recent Pinterest image loading issues.

One thing I do want to clarify is regarding the green button you talked about. I had no idea where or what you were referring to at first, which shows you how frustrated I was when you said, "clicking on the green Avast icon in the menu bar." I was looking in the Avast user interface instead. If anyone else is confused, Avast has added an icon up on the navigation toolbar. At least for me, it's to the right of my google search bar as well as the web address (navigation) bar. I have so many other icons I've added that it barely showed at all, and if not, I never would have found it. I hope Avast corrects this mistake, for that's what it is to blanket all social media sites with this restriction automatically, but most especially without notifying all it's users. I do have to say, Avast is absolutely an excellent product and I always recommend it to my friends. This is just a simple slip that can easily rectified.

I am so glad I scrolled down because that first stuff was really complicated and btw there is no 'load images" on the content tab. Luckily it was that last Avast update. I am starting to feel like I pay them to mess with me. Anyway thanks so much you guys.
