Firefox won't start

Firefox won't start even in safe mode. As soon as it tries to load I get the crash report. In the windows task manager 'processes' tab it shows for a second or two then disappears. It also happens to Thunderbird but all other programmes work OK so it seems to be something with the Mozilla tag. I have the latest version of both and windows is uptodate. I use a backup facility and have tried restoring from a previous (working) backup but it doesn't solve it. I've also used windows restore but that hasn't solved it. I'm using exactly the same backup copies on a laptop and that works OK so I'm wondering if the PC registry has been corrupted. I have antivirus running permanently and I've done a malware scan but nothing has been identified.

Thanks for the reply mha007.

I'm already using v 10.0.1? I can only assume that the system restore reverted to v9.0.1 before I submitted the report. However, the problem was happening with v10.0.1, which was why I performed a system restore in the first place. FF autoupdates so I'm always on the latest version.

Nevertheless, before I received your reply I reversed the previous system restore and restored the FF profile (using Mozbackup). I rebooted and Firefox was working OK again. I've no idea why but I'm guessing a registry file was corrupt and doing the restore etc put it right.

Thanks for your assistance anyway.

Your Crash Report is -> https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/db14b977-d246-46c5-a5df-3964b2120213

  • The Version information shown in the Crash Report is showing that the Crash ID you provided is from Firefox 9.0.1.

To make sure that you are using the latest Firefox 10.0.1 version, do the following:

-> Uninstall your current Firefox -> Uninstall Firefox from your computer

  • DO NOT SELECT TO REMOVE USER DATA AND SETTINGS
  • Restart your system

-> Download and Install latest Firefox version 10.0.1

-> Create a New Profile

Check and tell if its working.
