I keep getting the message that I am not on the current version of Firefox, but when I attempt to download the latest version I am told that I already have the latest version. What's going on?
I have no more details to provide. The question that I asked summarizes the problem completely.

Sounds like you're on 6.0.2 at the moment. 7.0 was shipped yesterday, but the automatic update is temporarily pulled back due to a newly discovered problem. So, in practice, 6.0.2 (which is what you appear to be running) is the latest version again.
Do you still get a prompt to upgrade now?
Yes, I am on version 6.0.2 and I do still get the message that I am not on the latest version of Firefox. When I click on 'help, about Firefox' I get the message that my version is up to date.
I have been having this problem for some time even before 7.00 version became available so I doubt that is the cause. It's happening using my main pc and my laptop...
Since I continue to get the cryptic message, I have decided to try a different browser, namely Google Chrome.
About Firefox tells me I'm running version 7.0.1 What's the deal? Why am I still getting update notices? I have several programs / sites that won't work anymore. Like Pandora for example. Need a fix soon or I too will be headed to another browser.
While the replies have been helpful they don't fix the problem. It is now quite evident that other Firefox users are experiencing the same annoying situation. It would appear that the experts at Mozilla need to address this glitch and fix it soon before more of us desert Firefox for Chrome, or perish the thought, Internet Explorer.
Not only do I get this message on other websites such as G-Mail and Word Press, but when I clicked on Firefox's "Submit Feedback" link, I cannot post feedback because...yes, I am not using the latest version. I am using 8.0.
I am using the latest version, but I continue to get the message that I am not on the latest version, so my problem has not been solved. However, I continue to use Firefox and it is working fine, as long as I don't obsess about the fact that I continue to get the annoying message.
This really is pathetic..why can't they fix the problem?

Thank you. I no longer get the message that I'm not on the current version of Firefox. I reset my home page to the default and all is well.
