I had my computer reformatted and lost a few things. I have Mozilla (Firefox) favourites folder on my desktop (a copy). I wish to get them into Firefox so that I can use them. Inside this favourties folder there are subfolders and web linis. What do I need to do.

Firefox saves its' bookmarks in one file named places.sqlite, which is located in the Firefox Profile folder. That file also holds your browsing history. That file isn't "human readable", it needs to be viewed thru Firefox or an SQLite manager program.

If you are opening a "favourites folder" and seeing sub-folders inside, you probably have the Internet Explorer Favourites, not your Firefox Bookmarks.

You need to get that folder into the proper location for Internet Explorer to be able to "see it". Then you need to open IE and export your Favourites into bookmarks.htm format so that Firefox can import that bookmarks.btm file.

In IE:
File > Import/Export - Export to a File, then select Favorites

then in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file
