Please restore my old version of Thunderbird - at 85 years I am not computer savvy and I am too old to learn new tricks. So please tell me how I might get back the previous layout of Thunderbird. Kind regards, Lawrence (Laurie) Ford. Melbourne Australia. 2nd October,2023.

If you feel not savvy enough to use the update, then it's unlikely to be a good experience attempting the steps to go back to the old version.

You can make the update look more like the old version, just like you can make the update look even newer than the default you are seeing.

There really isn't anything in the new interface that should be unfamiliar. What is it exactly that has you stumped?

Hi Wayne, On this new version I initially couldn't find the tab WRITE to bring up a blank email form and also the tab GET NEW EMAILS which I need when I have forgotten my password or my password gets rejected and I am sent a password reset email. Also I don't like the new format. So if you can send me how to reset the look like it used to be I would be very grateful. I have since found the tab to write a new email. Thanks Laurie

Hello! It's actually not that difficult to downgrade. I found it much easier than "making it look like the old version," which I couldn't actually manage to do. I hope they'll approve my message so you can use the instructions at this link. I bet the people on Reddit will help you if you have problems. Good luck!

I'm younger than the OP, but also wasted 20 minutes earlier trying to see how to write a new email. The combination of very tiny text, poor contrast and the obscure location of the "new message" tab had me foxed. I'm still struggling with the poorer visibility of the new layout and very much want to get back to the clearer and more user-friendly view Thunderbird had before this update.

I think the only sensible fix may be to make sure my profile is backed up, then uninstall this new version of Thunderbird and re-install the older version with the clearer and more user-friendly layout. After doing this I'd need to turn off automatic updates too, to stop this unusable interface reappearing.

Reminds me very much of the ongoing battle with Firefox, and Mozilla's insistence on removing the "tabs under the menu" with updates. I've had to waste time fixing that issue three or four times over the past few years.
