Hi all -

Just upgraded to TB 78 on Windows 10 x64, Build 2004. Noticed two major things:

Issue 1 -

All of the mail folder icons are no longer yellow. Just a stark white with a black edge. I attached an Image of the issue for review.

Issue 2 -

My Message Composition Pane is dark with white letters and most incoming text mail is the same.

I do have some dark colors set up under PC Settings -> Personalization but everything was working perfectly prior to this new release.

I attached Images of the issue for review. Note the "dark haze" over the HTML email.

No add-ons are enabled!

Any help appreciated! Kind of urgent to me.

TIA :)

If you right-click a folder icon, Properties, the icon color can be changed.

In the W10 Settings for Colors, set the default app mode to Light. The default Window mode can remain Dark.

At this point in 78 deployment, you should really create a new profile, and not use one created in an earlier version. Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles.

@sfhowes -

I created a new profile (no change) but it did not bring my entire inbox folder structure over. Just what was in my Inbox. How can I remedy that?

Also, why did the folder icons change to something so blah?

Thanks. :)

If the account is IMAP, subscribe to the folders that are missing. For local folders or POP mail, open the Mail/<popserver> or Mail/Local Folders locations in the old profile folder and copy the mbox files - files with no extension, named after folders - into Mail/Local Folders of the new profile, with TB closed. They will appear under Local Folders in the Folder Pane when TB restarts.

Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses can be transferred from the old to the new profile by copying abook.mab and history.mab.

If you still have a dark appearance in the new profile, there must be some Windows color setting causing it, as I don't see that with the default TB theme and the default Windows and app modes Dark and Light, respectively.

for some very good reasons - search for "scalable" at https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/78.0/releasenotes/ for two of them

Hi:

OK. Now look at this:

I have two inboxes and two trashes - both working. What's the best way to fix?

Almost there, thanks. :)

It's normal to have separate Trash folders for mail accounts and Local Folders. The Inbox under Local Folders looks like it's a Global Inbox for POP accounts.

I find that confusing. I only had one of each in the previous profile. Yes, I am using a POP account at this time.

Any way to have one of each?

Thanks. :)

Now something for you...

1) The color scheme is the same after creating a new clean profile. Still white on black text!

2) The folders are not yellow - is there a way to get them back.

3) Thunderbird looks a bit rough due to the lack of detail and color.

Ideas?

Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it. :)

Regarding Issue 2, I see the same issue in the MacOS. I have tried to change and "reset" the colors in the Preferences, but the values set in the Preferences don't seem to change anything.

Also, it doesn't happen on all messages.

Also, if I print the message to a PDF, the PDF (at least on the ones I tried) seems to look okay.

Mozilla needs to know that there are some problems here.

I cannot read emails due to the inverted dark grey background.

Everything in the compose/message view panes should be black on white.

How can I correct this?

Thank you.

The folder icon colors can be adjusted as explained in my first reply (see picture).

Yes. I corrected the icon colors, thank you.

Last issue, is the message display and composition panes.

There is definitely an interaction with Windows 10 Personalization (light-dark) and this problem.

Is there a way to override this manually?

On my setup, the default Window mode is Dark and the default app mode is Light, and TB has the default theme. The display is black text on white background.

Yes.

Now change the Default App Mode to Dark and check the TB message display pane (below your emails.)

I don't like seeing, for example, Windows Settings in white (too bright.)

There might be a bug with Thunderbird 78. Have this problem on two systems.

Hi all -

There appears to be an interaction with Windows 10 Personalization settings for the Dark Theme. Another possibility could be the use of Classic Shell colors for the Start Menu.

Could anyone play with these and post back if there is a problem with doing dark all over. Like I previously said, everything was just fine in the previous Thunderbird release and it's happening on three Windows 10 computers, also running Classic Shell and have the System Dark Mode enabled.

It's a bug!

So, I noticed the black read box and compose window as well. As far as I can see on MacOS these two are tied to the system theme (switching it to light makes them white, switching to dark makes than black). The weird thing is is that before the 78 update this was not the case. I think the issue is in the implementation of dark mode and this is just a start-up bug.

If you wanna fix it, switch to a light themed OS back and set Thunderbird to the dark theme (this does not affect the message read and compose windows, they will be white) for the time being as a work-around for the darkmode bug. There should be a toggle that lets you chose which parts are affected by dark mode and which aren't or just not affect the compose and read windows at all.

No matter what the permutations, the message compose pane and the message view pane are still dark. Some emails are almost impossible to read due to this fact.

I would like someone from Mozilla to chime in on this. It's urgent.

In addition, I can't go back to the previous version, since the profile has changed.

It's not backward compatible!

FWIW.

What luck. I've had the same problem with the dark issue since the new update. Please fix this as my email reader window cannot display my messages properly.

Hi.

Just upgraded to TB to 78.0.1 - same result. Do Mozilla Staff read these threads?

Still light text on a dark background for reading and composing messages.

It would be great if Mozilla Staff can acknowledge this thread.
