Turned on the machine this AM, started MT and one of mailboxes (Inbox only) was missing all of its column headings in the messages pane. Huh? Ok, right click the headings band and add: Read, Correspondents, attachments, Date. But there's no "Subject" to choose. Huh?

A search for help brought me here to a subject here regarding Message List columns (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/message-list-columns). One image in that topic shows the context menu for adding/subtcting headings. Subject isn't listed in that image either. Huh? And in that same image there is a "Reset Columns to Default". Ahhh I'll try that.

Nope, the bottom of my choices menu only shows: "Restore Column Order" and "Apply Columns too..." Nutz.

I updated 68.4.1 (32bit) MT hoping it might force a default update or fix the column menu. Uh-uh

Anybody have an idea how I can get the subject column to display in a specific mailbox's Inbox? thanks.

A couple of simple things to try: right-click the folder, Properties, Repair Folder. Or, select a folder that displays correctly, click the column icon, Apply Columns To, select Inbox.

Thank you!. that worked: Select a good folder, Apply Columns, sele Inbox. funny, i 'did'n't think of that going the other way...

I just wanted to mention that I have this problem, too: Every few weeks, one of my folders looses all shown column headings.

I always use the 'Apply columns to ...'-option from a different folder, but it would be convenient if the drop down menu for choosing columns included 'Subject' and/or an entry for a default selection (I am new to this support forum, so please let me know if I should post this wish somewhere else)

'Restore Column Order' should reset the columns, which always includes Subject by default (a Threads Pane without Subject would be practically useless), but sometimes it doesn't, and the 'Apply columns..' command does work. The column setup shouldn't need to be restored periodically, under normal conditions, unless there is an external app such as CCleaner or Privacy Eraser that interferes with TB settings.

Thank you for your reply. "'Restore Column Order' should reset the columns" - this makes sense. As applying 'Restore Column Order' does not affect the shown columns in my installation I had thought that I misinterpreted its purpose. "The column setup shouldn't need to be restored periodically" - hmm, at least I cannot think of any installed program that would alter the TB files. I tried using the 'repair folder' option and will see whether the problem keeps occurring.

For Inbox, Drafts and Sent .. there are no subject titles showing, and no column for such!! And, "Restore column Order" does nothing to help. Is this another chapter of Tbird "breaking down" ... such as the font color-changing also broke down?? I would like to see subject titles. Thanks.

Did you try the option "Apply columns to.. / Folder and its children ..." from a folder where all columns are still present and apply it to the your Inbox etc.? For me, the options that you mentioned do not help either if all columns go missing, but the "Apply columns to "-option does

Please see my comments:

And, "Restore column Order" does nothing to help. ... Altho this Tbird data base extends back into the LAST century .. WITH NO SUBJECT COLUMNS OR TITLES ANYWHERE! Perhaps 3-4 months now, not sure.

I would like to re-install T-bird, to see if that helps ... but how to do that without losing my YEARS of important emails .. personal and Non-profit org??!!

my ancient Mac tech guy will visit end of next week, and we will discuss further. If you have further suggestions, please send. thanks a bunch, ananda
