Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Thank you very much FredMcD. I removed my old version, and reinstalled the new version, but it did lose everything - not the end of the world, but frustrating - it is a shame that all my settings were not preserved for an update. My thanks again!

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

I have Ubuntu 17.04, and my current FF is 57. I have tried updating several times without success, and now have tried the following:-

• Downloaded FF66, and from Terminal tried to run the "updater" script, which fails with "./updater: error while loading shared libraries: libmozsqlite3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
• I tried running the firefox from the same directory, and a FF 57 browser window appears.
• Looked at software updater, and it showed that FF66 is installed, and when I clicked the "Launch" button, nothing happened.

There is no updater with the tarballs from mozilla.org

If a Firefox 57.0 window is popping up when using ./firefox in 66.0.5 folder then it (Fx 57.0) may have already been running. The 57.0 you posted this thread with appears to be a Ubuntu package build and not from Mozila.

You can either use the 66.0.5 from Mozilla or check for updates in package manager though Linux distros can be a little behind with Firefox updates sometimes.
