Moved from IE to Firefox on Laptop with no issues working fine. Followed same procedure on PC but cannot search anything as only get same message continually - "Your connection is not secure go back" .... No issues with going on facebook however.

Do not understand when following same procedure on both laptop and PC to change from IE why one works and one does not. If any help available I do need it in simple terms as not computer literate to any degree. Thanks

Hi AsterKid, sorry to hear about this problem.

On the "Your connection is not secure" page, could you click the "Advanced" button and then copy/paste that additional detail into a reply?

In particular, do you see a code in ALL_CAPS? There are a couple support articles with suggested steps for various of the codes so that would be my next suggestion to check, once you see what code is involved:

Any progress so far?

Hi

Thanks for response. - On advance tab it says

www.google .com uses an invalid security certificate

SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

I do not understand as previously said I did nothing different on my laptop and have no issues with the google search working uneventfully on that machiine

I have now read the troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites link you sent. It says could be my security product but again I do not see why this would be the case when I have the same security on laptop as on PC with no such problem occurring.

Although as previously said I am not computer savvy to any great extent.

Did you check your firewall software setting and or security software blocks or any adblockers that would block the site?

more options

Hi AsterKid, I'm not sure how your two system ended up working differently.

If you use a security program that intercepts all your browsing -- like Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, ESET, Kaspersky -- in order to filter your connection with secure sites, it needs to generate fake site certificates. Firefox doesn't trust these "out of the box" and needs to be set up to trust them. Sometimes the security software does that for you automatically, and sometimes you need to give it a push or import a certificate yourself.

Did the steps in the article(s) help?

I could not get it to work even though I did all steps in article. But as it said virus protection software could cause issue I thus decided to ask their help line what I could do. They gave me a list to follow to update and ensure newest version of software running and this immediately solved the issue. Thank you for your initial support and suggestions which put me in the right direction for resolution.

You can check if there is more detail available about the issuer of the certificate.

  • click the "Advanced" button show more detail
  • click the blue error text (SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER) to show the certificate chain
  • click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste the base64 certificate chain text in a reply

If clicking the blue error text doesn't provide the certificate chain then try these steps to inspect the certificate.

  • open the Servers tab in the Certificate Manager
    • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Certificates: View Certificates -> Servers: "Add Exception"
  • paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's Location field

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"

  • click the "View" button and inspect the certificate

You can see detail like the issuer of the certificate and intermediate certificates in the Details tab.
