I made the changes advised but this did not change the situation at all. Still no scrolling feature.

By mouse. It is only in the past few days, maybe no more than two weeks that the problem has occured.

open new tab and paste this about:config

check if all settings refering to mousewheel are set to default

Two settings are not set to default:

1. mousewheel.acceleration.start: modified integer 1 2. mousewheel.acceleration.min_line_scroll_amount: modified integer 25

set them to default

Both parameters set to 'default' but no improvment. Still no scrolling functionality.

I'm not familiar with this device. Is this a touch screen or a device with a keyboard that has curor keys?

Do the mouse buttons and mouse pointer work properly?

Did you make sure that Windows is running in desktop mode and not in tablet mode if that is possible on your device?

The computer is used almost universally in desktop mode. I have checked that it is not in tablet mode.

As such I only very rarely use the touch screen; it is used with a normal wireless keyboard and mouse. Both of these work well and normally, including scrolling, in all applications with the exception of Firefox.

Could this problem be associated with a recent automatic upgrade of Firefox?

PS. Also the laptop remains closed and is used to drive a largish high performance seperate display screen.
