I updated to 47.0 today, and my browsing history disappeared. How can I recover it? I updated but I didn't click or agree to anything regarding deleting my history.

I'm on a Mac. I've searched through previous answers and so far no suggestions (as I understand them, admittedly I might be screwing up the execution) have worked. I haven't backed up my history or my profile in the past. This is the first time I've had an issue with updating.

I'll be more careful in the future, but can anything be done to recover my history? Would be very grateful for any ideas or advice. Thanks!

Others have reported the same. The cause was an add-on.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

If you use the Time Machine then try to restore file(s) from that backup.

For the bookmarks and history you need to restore the places.sqlite file.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
