How can I save web pages in a file/folder so that they can be viewed & used equally on another computer (e. g. between Mac and PC)?
Hello! For a university research project, I need to create offline versions of online websites and share them with my research partners. I tried using the standard Save as --> Complete website -option. On my computer (OSX 10.11.3), it works perfectly fine, but on my research partners' computer (Windows), only the HTML-content is visible. Pictures, Social Media Applications etc. are not visible.
My assumption is that after the transmission, the file can no longer connect to the folder that contains the other content. Is there a way I can solve this problem?
Thanks very much in advance, Hanna

It's difficult to capture entire websites to disk because many elements of modern sites are added interactively.
If a "static" version of the site is acceptable, you might want to print the pages to PDF or capture them as screenshots. These methods are not perfect, either, as print views may differ from screen views, and screen shots are not searchable. But they might be a useful supplement to your saved files.
Microsoft created an archive format for websites that you could test out in Firefox with an add-on. I haven't tried it myself:
Again, though, I suggest saving multiple formats in case future changes may render these files less functional.

When you save web pages, there is the file containing the information. But there is also a folder of the same name. This makes it a bit complicated.
There are several things you can try, but I don't know what it is you want others to see.
- Send the link to the web page
- Copy As Plain Text {web link}
Removes formatting from copied text.

You can consider to save the website as a screenshot (PNG file) if you need a true representation.
Firefox comes with a feature to take a full page screenshot as part of built-in developer tools. Firefox has a setting in the web developer toolbox settings to add a button to the toolbar of the Web Developer toolbox to take a full page screenshot.
- Available Toolbox Buttons: Take a fullpage screenshot
The (default) file name is "Screen Shot yyyy-mm-dd at HH.MM.SS.png" and the file is saved to the Downloads folder.
You can access the Web Developer tools via Inspect Element in the right-click context menu.
Thank you so much for your replies, FredMcD, jscher2000 and cor-el!
Unfortunately, screenshots are not an option for us, because we need to extract some features of the text.
Parallel to the saving option, I tried the Mozilla Archive Format-Add-On, and for some pages it really is the best choice. The other persons need to install the Add-On as well, and then they see exactly the same file as I do on my computer.
That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.
