I synced my bookmarks etc and then uninstalled and reformatted my harddrive. I tried to login to sync but it does not recognize my account. Why?

I needed to reformat my HD and didn't want to lose my bookmarks in Firefox, so I synced them to my existing account. I then uninstalled Firefox and other programs using Windows Control Panel. There is no choice there to save my profile or anything like that. After reformatting, I reinstalled Firefox and tried to sign in to my sync account but it will not let me. It behaves like there is no such account. Why?

You presumably synced using the older version of Firefox Sync, which cannot be used by fresh installations of newer Firefox. If there is another device with which your account was synced, Mozilla provides the following instructions for migrating to new Sync: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-update-to-the-new-firefox-sync

If you have only one device, then you could 1) uninstall the newer Firefox, 2) install an older Firefox from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ 3) sign into old Sync account and Sync 4) then migrate to new Sync.
